Sandy Brown was signed from Partick Thistle for a fee of £38,000 in September 1963 and went on to enjoy a glorious spell for the Blues.
To say Brown was versatile is an understatement – the Scot played in every single position at Everton, including goalkeeper when Gordon West was sent off in a league game against Newcastle United!
Brown was as tough as they come and boss Harry Catterick was a fan of his ability to read the game, often playing him in front of the back four, as well as his preferred position of full-back.
While he played in four games on the way to the 1966 FA Cup final, Brown was not selected at Wembley and missed out on a winner’s medal.
He did, however, pick up league championship honours for his efforts during the title-winning season of 1969/70.
He left the club for Shrewsbury in May 1971 after netting 11 goals in 251 games for the Toffees.
