Tarkowski Reveals Key Ingredient To Impressive Form

James Tarkowski believes the unity shown by everyone associated to Everton has been key to the Blues' impressive recent run, while insisting "the season is not over" despite having already secured top-flight football for next season.

The Toffees drew 1-1 with Luton Town on Friday night, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin's penalty was cancelled out by Elijah Adebayo's effort during an eventful first half at Kenilworth Road.

Tarkowski, who has started all 36 of Everton's Premier League games so far this campaign, says he was pleased with the resilient nature of the side's performance before turning attentions to producing a strong performance for the final home game of the season against Sheffield United next weekend as a gesture of appreciation for the Evertonians' outstanding support during another challenging term.

Everton extended their unbeaten run to four games in Bedfordshire, after recording three wins in the space of six days last week to extend the Club's stay in the top-flight to a 71st consecutive season. When asked about the key to that upturn in form, Tarkowski explained: "Mentality, togetherness, everyone being on board - not just players, that’s staff, fans, everyone at the Club.

"Last week was a great week and we had to come into this prepared because we know Luton are fighting for their lives now. It was always going to be a tough night, especially after the highs of last week.

"We ground out a point. We didn’t play great, but it’s resilience and we’ve managed to get a point on the board.

"We’ve shown [resilience] in abundance this year, to be fair. We’ve defended really well most of the time, bar the Chelsea game. We’ve shown again tonight we’ve got a great goalie behind us and a team who are willing to put their bodies on the line to stop the ball going in the back of the net.

"It's important to keep building because it’s a season’s work. The season’s not finished just because we’re safe. We should have never been in that position.

"We had a great week last week and now have a great opportunity with two more games to get some more points on the board and see where we might have finished without the deductions.

"We have one more home game against Sheffield United which is a great opportunity to put in a performance for the fans who deserve it and get three points."

Tarkowski also revealed his wife had given birth to their second child in the build-up to Friday's game at Luton.

"I’ve actually not trained at all [this week], to be honest!" he admitted. "I’ve done nothing. Thanks to the wife for letting me go. She’s at home looking after the little one so thanks to her, I’m here tonight and able to play."
