Sigurdsson Helps Iceland To Important Win Over Turkey

Gylfi Sigurdsson played the full 90 minutes as Iceland's hopes of qualification for Euro 2020 were boosted with a 2-1 win over Turkey.

A first-half double from Sigurdsson's namesake Ragnar Sigurdsson helped the Euro 2016 quarter-finalists move to nine points from four games, level at the top of qualification Group H with their opponents and France.

France, for whom Lucas Digne was an unused substitute, recorded a straightforward 4-0 victory in Andorra, with Kurt Zouma, a loanee at Everton during the 2018-19 campaign, among the scorers.

The world champions now top Group H on goal difference from Cenk Tosun's Turkey in second and Iceland in third.

Turkey, who stunned France 2-0 on Saturday, were missing Everton striker Tosun through injury.

In Group I, Muhamed Besic's Bosnia took a surprise lead in Turin before falling to a 2-1 defeat against Italy.

Edin Dzeko broke the deadlock on 32 minutes but the hosts hit back after the break through Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne and PSG's Marco Verratti. Besic, who played the full 90 minutes, was booked shortly before half-time.

Finally, at the FIFA Women's World Cup, Inessa Kaagman was an unused substitute as Euro 2017 winners Holland opened their campaign by beating New Zealand 1-0 in Group E.
