Boa Morte Appointed Everton Assistant Manager

Luis Boa Morte says he is excited to be linking up with Marco Silva again after being appointed as the new Everton assistant manager.

Boa Morte, who has signed a two-year contract, joins the Blues from Israeli side Maccabi Haifa, where he was also assistant manager, and replaces João Pedro Sousa following his appointment as the new head coach of Portuguese side Famalicão.

The move to Merseyside sees Boa Morte reunited with Everton manager Silva, with the pair having previously worked together at Sporting Lisbon.

“I’m very happy to be joining Everton, a big club with so much history and tradition,” said the 41-year-old.

“I’m excited to be working again with the manager, Marco Silva, who is a great coach and I would like to thank him for providing me with such a big opportunity.

“I’m looking forward to meeting all the players and staff at the Club when we return for pre-season training next month and start the preparations for the 2019/20 Premier League season.”

During Silva’s spell in charge at Sporting in 2014-15, Boa Morte led the Primeira Liga giants’ Under-19 side.

He has also managed Portuguese third-tier team Sintrense and the Under-23 side of top division outfit Portimonense SC.

Boa Morte was named as assistant boss to Maccabi manager Marco Balbul in January 2019 and helped the club achieve a second-place finish in the Israeli Premier League.

A former Portugal international forward, Boa Morte spent the majority of his playing career in England’s top flight, where he racked up 296 Premier League appearances.

He started his professional career at Sporting before moving to Arsenal in 1997.

After a two-year spell with the Gunners, where he won Premier League and FA Cup winners’ medals in 1998, he signed for Southampton.

Boa Morte later went on to enjoy sustained and successful periods at Fulham, where he was part of the team that won the Division One title in 2001, and West Ham United.

He also had spells at Larissa in Greece and Orlando Pirates in South Africa, where he won another league title.
