Silva Urges Everton To Reach 'Best Level'

Marco Silva says Everton must “reach our best level” to secure a fifth victory in six games at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Silva masterminded a 4-0 Goodison Park beating of Manchester United last weekend, a success the manager claimed represented another significant staging post in his team’s development.

Everton will move beyond the 49-point mark they reached last term by avoiding defeat in south London.

Silva is nevertheless targeting a maximum haul and urging his side to “keep fighting” until the end of the season.

Everton, ninth in the table but separated by only two points from seventh-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers, have Lucas Digne available to face Palace after the left-back limped out of the United clash with five minutes remaining.

Richarlison’s involvement in that match was also prematurely curtailed and the Brazilian is a “major doubt” for this weekend’s fixture.

“We have to prove our quality again and it will be a tough match” said Silva.

“I can see really good quality in Palace’s team, top players in their attack line who can decide the game in one moment.

“Luka Milivojevic in the middle zone is the key player and capable of supporting their attack line.

“Selhurst Park is a tough place to play and, in my opinion, a good place to play.

“It is up to us to do our best and if we reach our best level we can win the match.

“We have three more matches and must keep fighting and proving our quality.”

Everton have won convincingly on the road at both Cardiff City and West Ham United since the end of February.

Everton are fourth in the Premier League’s current form table after winning three home games on the spin, victories over Chelsea and Arsenal immediately preceding the United triumph.

“In the past six games, I have seen some important things in our team,” said Silva, whose side welcome Burnley to Goodison next Friday and complete their campaign at Tottenham Hotspur nine days later.

“We are growing as a team but have many things to keep working on.

“When you start building something, it is a big process.

“We were starting [this season] with new players and a new manager.

“In one month of the season, we did not react well to some bad moments. It was tough for us and we lost some confidence as a team.

“But the season is long and you have to consistently show what you want to do.

“We had that bad moment but stuck together and believed in our way.

“We weren’t happy with the results but we kept working hard to achieve what we wanted.

“And we have done very well in the past month and a half.”

Silva conceded last Sunday’s thumping of United rated as “one of the best” performances of his Everton reign.

But the former Olympiakos manager, appointed Goodison Park boss last summer, insisted that match had no bearing on his side’s preparations to tackle Roy Hodgson’s Palace.

Richarlison and Digne were both on target against United, that pair’s goals sandwiching a strike from Gylfi Sigurdsson, before Theo Walcott wrapped up the scoring.

Forward Walcott is being monitored ahead of the Palace clash after suffering a bout of sickness. Defender Yerry Mina, meanwhile, out since hurting a hamstring on international duty last month, is back in full training.

“Lucas is okay but Richarlison is a major doubt for us,” added Silva.

“He tried yesterday to work with us and again today. We will see how he reacts tomorrow [Friday].

“Theo was sick this morning, so we will also see how he reacts.

“Yerry Mina started training with the team at the beginning of the week and is doing well.

“We did really well against United and were clinical and assertive in the final third.

“The players rested for one day, then worked hard to prepare for the next match.

“Nothing changed in our work.

“I am really happy when I see the team performing how we did last week and our players and fans enjoying the game.

“But it was just three points and we have to keep working hard to achieve what we want in the next match.”
