Richarlison: Chelsea Win Can Be Springboard

Richarlison believes Everton’s impressive 2-0 victory over Chelsea in their previous Premier League game can be a springboard for a strong finish to the season.

The Brazilian headed his 12th top-flight goal of the campaign as the Blues delivered a vibrant second-half performance against Maurizio Sarri’s team on 17 March.

The victory means Everton are just four points behind seventh-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers, and the 21-year-old forward says the Toffees are eager to narrow that gap.

Next up for Marco Silva’s team is a meeting with West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday (5.30pm kick-off).

Richarlison insists the confidence gained by the success against top-four contenders Chelsea can help to inspire a second successive Premier League victory.

“It was an important win and it was a great performance by Everton,” he said. “All the players played well as a team.

“We’ve played well against the so-called big six teams before and it was great to be rewarded with the three points.

“It was a really important victory because there was a gap appearing between sixth and seventh place and ourselves in the table.

“Now we want to get three more points on Saturday and climb the table. We want to hit form and go on a good run.”

Richarlison has recently been away with Brazil on international duty, starting both of five-time world champions’ friendly internationals as they drew 1-1 with Panama and beat Czech Republic 3-1.

The dynamic forward had not been capped at senior level when he joined Everton last summer but his eye-catching form for the Blues saw him rewarded with a first call-up in September.

Richarlison has remained a constant in boss Tite’s squad and has netted three goals in eight appearances for his country to date.

The former Fluminense player, who is joint-top of the Everton goalscoring charts with Gylfi Sigurdsson, set out his resolve to continue developing his game.

“I think that every kid’s dream is to play for their national team and I’ve achieved that at the age of only 21,” he said.

“I’ve got a long road ahead of me and I just want to keep improving and taking on board any advice I’m given.

“I’ve been scoring a lot of goals for Everton, but I want to keep improving both in games and in training.

“I want to score in every game and be in with a shout of being among the top scorers. I love scoring and being up there with the best players in the league.”
