Silva Underlines Belief In 'Quality' Everton Squad

Marco Silva has underlined the belief he has in the quality of his Everton team and challenged his players to extend their winning run when they travel to Southampton on Saturday.

The Toffees head into the game on the back of consecutive victories, with the Blues first overcoming Lincoln City to secure their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup before seeing off Bournemouth in the Premier League last Sunday.

The success against the Cherries at Goodison Park saw the Blues move to within just two points of seventh place.

Everton boss Silva saw his side accumulate 17 points from a possible 24 during an impressive run of form between September and November.

The Portuguese revealed his unwavering confidence the Blues boast the talent to string together another positive series of results - and detailed how he emphasises this conviction every day on the training pitch at USM Finch Farm.

“It is something I am telling the players [the belief I have in them] and the good things we have done,” he said.

“Even if we have a tough period, we do not forget the really good things we have done.

“We had a lot of changes at the start of the season. We brought in six new players and we wanted to gel as fast as we can.

“In football, sometimes you don’t have the time because you have to win the next game and show your quality.

“I always want more from my team but I know the very good things we have done this season.”

Silva is expecting a tough test against Southampton on Saturday, with the Saints rejuvenated since the appointment of boss Ralph Hassenhuttl in December.

The south coast side have lifted themselves out of the relegation places and secured an impressive 2-1 victory at Leicester City in their previous Premier League outing.

If Everton play to their potential, however, Silva is confident the Blues can impress again.

“The manager [Hassenhuttl] has had a strong impact,” he said. “They achieved some good results and he has changed many things in their style and their way of playing.

“It will be tough. They are fighting really hard and it is up to us to play in our best level to achieve a good result.

“It is always tough to play there, they have good quality and some of the players are playing with more confidence now. We have to respect them, but do our best to win the match.”
