Baines Confident Blues' Quality Will Bring Consistency

Leighton Baines has backed the quality of Everton's squad to find consistency under Marco Silva.

The Blues are back in league action on Saturday when they travel to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City, having exited the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

An impressive 3-0 win over Fulham at Goodison Park had preluded that frustrating night in the cup - as the hosts lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw - and Baines knows Everton must find a uniformity to their play more like the second-half display which proved too much for Fulham to deal with.

Alongside Baines, there were first starts of the season for Ademola Lookman and summer signing Bernard against Southampton.

The 33-year-old left-back says the chance to make those changes shows the calibre of Everton’s squad this season, and believes that will help the Blues find a consistent level of performance needed to pick up points.

“We will be looking to carry on our league form going to Leicester,” he said. “There is quality in the team and we are a good side. But we know we have to bring that little bit more consistency which I am sure we will find.

“It is like that sometimes. Obviously we work on these things in training every day. Some days it's flowing and looks good but others it doesn’t quite happen. It might just be that that final pass or cross is lacking.

“But [that consistency] is something we know we are capable of and have shown.

“Certainly when you look at the talent we have available to us, we know that there are opportunities and goals in there. It is just a case of producing it on the pitch.

“There was still a lot of quality in the team [against Southampton]. That shows the strength in depth that we have got and the options that the manager has available to him.”
