Bryson Relishing Chances To Face WSL 1 Best

Faye Bryson is relishing the “great experience” of pitting her wits against the likes of England international Ellen White.

Both Bryson and White locked horns in Everton Ladies’ 3-0 defeat to Birmingham City at the Marine Travel Arena on Sunday. While the result was unfavourable, it was another positive display from the Blue Girls against an established WSL 1 outfit.

That was Bryson’s 19th appearance of the season and the 20-year-old is pleased to be able to enjoy opportunities to test herself against the best in the division.

“It is always tough to play against senior internationals like Ellen White and Rachel Williams but it’s always a great experience,” she told evertonfc.com. “They are established players in the game and amongst the best in the division.

“I felt everyone did well against those international players and the talented youngsters they have got.

“For me, I was pleased to get another 90 minutes under my belt. I want to play as much as I can so to feature against Liverpool, Yeovil and then Birmingham in the last few weeks helps with consistency.

“I feel like I am starting to do the right things and hopefully I can continue to catch the eye and play against Man City in our final game on Sunday.”

Goals from Charlie Wellings and White – both finding the target with a pair of Goal of the Season contenders - saw the visitors take the spoils in Crosby at the end of a tough week for the Toffees.

Defeat to Bristol was followed up by an impressive midweek win over Yeovil Town but after a gruelling first season back in the top flight of women’s football, Birmingham proved too strong on the day.

But Bryson insists the combative performance put in from Everton is one they can take confidence from.

“It was a tough game,” she added. “Birmingham were coming at us quite a bit but I thought we dealt with it well. We were organised and it was just a shame to let those goals go in, although two of them were great strikes and there wasn’t a lot you could do with them. Looking back, maybe we could have got tighter.

“But on the whole, I thought we did well and we were tight and compact for most of the game. We can count ourselves unlucky.

“Birmingham are one of the best teams in the league. They get the ball down and play good football. They have some really strong players and they are definitely up there with the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City – as their league position suggests.

“They are a tough side to play against but we broke them down at times and we can take confidence from that.”
